Berta has a B.S. in Accounting and is currently pursuing her CPA license in Florida. She has worked with more than a dozen Fortune 500 companies to improve processes in accounting, finance, and fraud prevention. Berta is passionate about helping small businesses gain clarity and control over their finances. Outside of work she enjoys weightlifting and supporting new local restaurants.

Tricia Smith: Senior Accountant

Tricia has over 30 years of accounting experience and a B.S. in Accounting. She has worked across corporate, non-profit, small business, and healthcare sectors, gaining hands-on expertise in all areas of accounting. Tricia enjoys solving problems through research, conducting financial analysis, and streamlining processes. Katherine is a CPA with over 25 years of experience in accounting and finance across a wide range of industries. Outside of work, Katherine loves to cook and enjoy sports, particularly baseball and football and is an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Jacksonville Jaguars.

What software do you use for bookkeeping?

We recommend QuickBooks Online for most our clients, but we also work with other platforms such as QuickBooks Desktop, Wave, and Xero.

Does HWA prepare income tax returns?

While we can prepare income tax returns, we believe our clients are better served by firms that specialize in tax preparation, as our primary strengths are in bookkeeping and business advisory. We evaluate tax return requests on a case-by-case basis, depending on our staffing levels and the complexity of the return. If we’re unable to assist, we can recommend a trusted tax specialist and ensure your books are in perfect order for tax season.

How do I choose between fully outsourced bookkeeping and bookkeeping review?

This choice depends on how involved you want to be in your business’s day-to-day bookkeeping. Fully outsourced bookkeeping is ideal for clients who prefer to be completely hands-off, allowing our team to handle all bookkeeping tasks, from transaction classification to account reconciliation and financial reporting. On the other hand, bookkeeping review is suited for clients who prefer to manage their own bookkeeping but need expert oversight to ensure accuracy, catch any errors, and provide valuable feedback on improvements.

How much do your services cost?

All of our services at HWA are customized to meet the specific needs of each client, and so is our pricing. Costs are determined by the scope of work we agree upon together, and we operate on a time and material basis rather than a flat rate or subscription model. This approach ensures that our team can dedicate the time needed to deliver high-quality, accurate accounting work.
